Flyloops ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and related services.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

• Email address (used for authentication and account communications)
• Username (chosen by you or generated from your email)

Fishing Activity Data

When you use Flyloops to log your fishing sessions, we collect:

• Catch records (species, size, weight, fly patterns used)
• Session information (date, time, duration, weather conditions)
• Venue/location data (fishing spots you visit)
• Photos you choose to attach to your catches
• Notes and comments you add

Device & Usage Information

• Device type and operating system
• App usage patterns and preferences
• Approximate location (when you grant permission, used for venue detection and weather)

Payment Information

Subscription payments are processed by Apple In-App Purchase (iOS) or Google Play (Android). We do not store your credit card details. We receive only transaction confirmations and subscription status from Apple or Google.

2. Newsletter and Marketing Communications

What we send

If you opt in to our newsletter, we send occasional emails (typically about once a month) containing fly fishing tips, member catches, seasonal patterns, product updates, and other content related to Flyloops and fly fishing.

How we collect consent

Newsletter subscription is entirely optional. We ask for your consent through a clear opt-in choice when you sign up to Flyloops, and you can change your preference at any time by contacting us. We will never automatically subscribe you to marketing emails based on your account creation alone.

What we record when you opt in or decline

To comply with privacy law (including the Protection of Personal Information Act in South Africa and the General Data Protection Regulation in the European Union and United Kingdom), we keep a record of your consent decision. This includes:

• Whether you opted in or declined
• The date and time of your decision
• The IP address from which the decision was made
• The exact wording of the consent request shown to you at the time
• The location in our app where the decision was made

This record is kept solely to demonstrate that we have valid consent to send you marketing communications, and to ensure we respect your choice. We retain this record for as long as you have a Flyloops account, and for a reasonable period afterwards in case of disputes.

How to unsubscribe

You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time by:

• Clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any newsletter email
• Emailing us at [email protected] with the subject line "Unsubscribe"

When you unsubscribe, we will stop sending you marketing emails immediately. We will keep a record of your unsubscribe request to ensure we honour it.

Transactional emails

Separate from the newsletter, we may send you emails that are necessary for the operation of your Flyloops account. These include:

• Account verification and password reset emails
• Onboarding emails to help you get started with the app
• Important service announcements (e.g. policy changes, security notices)
• Responses to support requests

These emails are sent on the basis of legitimate interest and our contract with you as a user, and are not subject to the marketing opt-in. You cannot unsubscribe from essential transactional emails while you have an active account, but you can close your account at any time if you no longer wish to receive any communication from us.

We use your information to:

• Provide and maintain the Flyloops service
• Authenticate your account and keep it secure
• Store and display your fishing records and statistics
• Generate personalized insights and coaching tips
• Show crowd-sourced fishing data (anonymized catches at venues)
• Process subscription payments
• Send important service updates (e.g., password resets)
• Improve our app based on usage patterns

We may share data in these limited circumstances:

• Anonymized venue data: Catch statistics at venues may be shown to other users in aggregate form (e.g., "15 catches this week at River X") without identifying you personally.
• Service providers: We use third-party services for hosting, analytics, and app features. These providers are contractually bound to protect your data.
• Legal requirements: If required by law or to protect our rights and safety.

Third-Party Services

• Apple In-App Purchase / StoreKit: For iOS payment processing and subscriptions
• Google Play: For Android payment processing and subscriptions
• DigitalOcean: For hosting and data storage

Your data is stored on secure servers. We implement industry-standard security measures including:

• HTTPS encryption for all data transmission
• Secure database storage with access controls

While we strive to protect your data, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

Access & Export

Pro subscribers can export all their fishing data at any time through the app's export feature.

Data Correction

You can edit or delete individual catches and sessions within the app.

Location Permissions

You can deny or revoke location permissions at any time through your device settings. The app will still function but some features (venue detection, weather) may be limited.

Marketing

We do not send marketing emails. We only send essential service communications.

Flyloops is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected data from a child, please contact us immediately.

9. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or legitimate business purposes.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting the new policy in the app or on our website. Your continued use of Flyloops after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
